Continuous improvement framework

How Our CQC Audit & Improvement Process Works

A structured cycle of assessment, evidence review, improvement planning and follow-up helps providers identify compliance gaps, strengthen governance and demonstrate continuous improvement.

From defining the audit scope to re-audit and monitoring, each stage is designed to turn findings into practical, evidence-led improvement.

People’s experience — including feedback, satisfaction and complaints — is a key part of CQC’s quality assessment.

Explore CQC Mock Inspections
CQC Audit Cycle showing seven stages: define audit scope, set quality standards, collect evidence, review findings, agree an improvement plan, implement changes, and re-audit and monitor.

Common questions

CQC support FAQs

Read more FAQs

A quick answer to one common question. The question changes automatically every 20 seconds; visit the FAQ page for the full list.

When should I seek CQC registration support?

Registration support is useful before you submit an application, particularly where the provider structure, regulated activities, locations or supporting evidence still need to be confirmed. Early review can identify gaps before they delay the application.

What does a CQC mock inspection cover?

A mock inspection can review governance, policies, records, staffing, safeguarding, medicines, complaints, incidents, service-user experience, health and safety, infection control and quality assurance. The exact scope is tailored to your provider type and regulated activities.

How should we prepare for our CQC interview?

Preparation should cover the regulations, your application documents, policies, leadership responsibilities and the way your service will operate in practice. We can support interview preparation using example question areas and scenario-based practice.
