CQC Registration
Support to define the correct legal entity, regulated activities, service types and locations; prepare the statement of purpose and required evidence; and plan for any registered manager application.
Secondary Care CQC support
CQC registration, compliance and inspection support for maternity and midwifery services in England.
CQC scope and registration
CQC defines Maternity and midwifery services as a distinct regulated activity when services are carried out by, or under the supervision of, a registered healthcare professional, subject to specific exemptions.
CQC also distinguishes advice-only services, certain independent midwives working exclusively in people’s homes, and antenatal or postnatal services delivered within other care models.
Provider type × service intent
Support to define the correct legal entity, regulated activities, service types and locations; prepare the statement of purpose and required evidence; and plan for any registered manager application.
Governance, policies, audits and evidence systems aligned to the regulations and the evidence CQC expects for the service actually delivered.
Focused preparation against relevant Quality Statements, leadership readiness, staff understanding and evidence of safe delivery.
A proportionate review of records, governance, people’s experience, processes and outcomes, followed by a prioritised action plan.
Your operating model
Map where care is provided, who employs or supervises the midwife, whether the service is NHS or independent, whether it is home-only or clinic-based, and whether additional procedures create other regulated activities.
CQC registration depends on the regulated activities actually carried on and any applicable exceptions. The service label alone does not determine registration.
Service-specific priorities
Review assessment, escalation, continuity and clinical governance.
Check deterioration, transfer, emergency response and communication with other services.
Review competence, supervision, records, medicines and incident learning.

From evidence to action
We review the service model, registration position, policies, governance and evidence against the CQC requirements that apply to the activities being delivered. Where the scope is uncertain, the first step is to establish the correct regulated activity before treating generic guidance as applicable.
Our work builds on your existing systems. The provider retains responsibility for safe delivery and ongoing compliance.
