Secondary Care CQC support

CQC Support for Fertility & IVF Services

CQC registration, compliance and inspection support for fertility and IVF services in England, with service-specific CQC scope considerations.

CQC scope and registration

Fertility and IVF needs its own CQC scope review

CQC service-type guidance includes IVF clinics within acute services where surgical treatment or endoscopy is provided. CQC’s Surgical procedures guidance also contains a specific exception for certain procedures authorised under a Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority licence.

Because the CQC position can interact with the exact fertility procedures and HFEA-licensed activity, fertility and IVF should not be merged into a generic maternity or termination page.

Practical CQC support at each stage

CQC Registration

Support to define the correct legal entity, regulated activities, service types and locations; prepare the statement of purpose and required evidence; and plan for any registered manager application.

CQC Compliance

Governance, policies, audits and evidence systems aligned to the regulations and the evidence CQC expects for the service actually delivered.

Inspection Preparation

Focused preparation against relevant Quality Statements, leadership readiness, staff understanding and evidence of safe delivery.

Mock Inspections & Audits

A proportionate review of records, governance, people’s experience, processes and outcomes, followed by a prioritised action plan.

Your operating model

Separate fertility pathways, procedures and licensing responsibilities

Define consultations, diagnostics, medicines, procedures, laboratory interfaces, consent, safeguarding, emergency arrangements and where HFEA-authorised activity changes the CQC registration position.

CQC registration depends on the regulated activities actually carried on and any applicable exceptions. The service label alone does not determine registration.

Service-specific priorities

What we focus on

Consent and treatment pathways

Review consent, clinical decision-making, treatment plans and follow-up.

Procedure governance

Clarify which procedures are carried out and which CQC regulated activities or exceptions apply.

Clinical and laboratory interfaces

Check responsibilities, handovers, incident reporting and quality assurance across the pathway.

From evidence to action

Prepare for a useful CQC review

We review the service model, registration position, policies, governance and evidence against the CQC requirements that apply to the activities being delivered. Where the scope is uncertain, the first step is to establish the correct regulated activity before treating generic guidance as applicable.

Our work builds on your existing systems. The provider retains responsibility for safe delivery and ongoing compliance.
