Registered Manager readiness
CQC Registered Manager support can help managers understand the responsibilities attached to the role, organise supporting evidence and prepare to explain how the service will be led safely and effectively. Preparation should be grounded in the provider’s own model, policies, risks and regulated activities.
Our CQC Registered Manager interview preparation uses relevant themes and scenario-based discussion to build confidence without suggesting that any particular questions are guaranteed to be asked by CQC.
How we can help
Clarify responsibilities, governance expectations, escalation arrangements and how the manager demonstrates oversight.
Prepare for likely areas of questioning using the service model, regulated activities, evidence and leadership responsibilities.
Review whether the manager can locate, explain and connect key governance, quality, staffing and safety evidence.
Support leadership teams after registration or when governance arrangements, locations or service models change.
Preparation should help the manager explain their own service and responsibilities clearly. Relevant discussion areas may include the operating model, regulated activities, staffing oversight, safeguarding, incident escalation, complaints, quality monitoring and the way risks are identified and addressed. The emphasis is on understanding and applying the provider’s arrangements rather than memorising a script.
Scenario-based discussion can explore how a manager would recognise a concern, take appropriate action, record decisions and check the outcome. For example, a staffing concern may require consideration of immediate cover, staff competence, escalation and subsequent review. Examples should be relevant to the service and should not be treated as predictions of CQC interview questions.
Explain whether you are preparing for a new registration, an interview, a service change or an existing leadership responsibility. The provider’s Statement of Purpose, relevant application information and current governance arrangements may help define the work. Agree what is needed before supplying documents and avoid sharing unnecessary personal information.
Support can help identify gaps in understanding, organise evidence and strengthen the manager’s ability to explain how the service will operate. It does not replace the manager’s own knowledge, competence or responsibilities. CQC determines its assessment approach and registration decisions; neither specific interview questions nor approval can be guaranteed.
